Patrick:  Bully Poster Child

Picture
We met a dog whose eyes avoided human faces and whose body recoiled with every kind hand that attempted to comfort him. His former owner simply surrendered the dog for euthanasia and a quick fix for a wicked person’s moment of remorse. We swallowed hard and held the tears that would surely upset the poor animal whose neglect, abuse, and lack of gentle human contact broke his spirit and condemned the timid dog to death.  Today, Patrick is healthy and living with a new best friend, Victoria, a Corgi.

Nino:  Stunning with a personality to match

Picture
NINO is a stunning boy with fabulous olive green eyes! He is very well mannered, a true gentleman with everyone, especially those with treats. Giving kisses is a favorite activity for this handsome boy.  He was adopted by one of Jersey City's Bravest, a fire fighter, and is enjoying life with his wonderful new family.

Patchy:  Loves camping and nature

Picture
Handsome! He has beautiful light brown eyes and a warm expression that puts people at ease. Patchy Quilt is a big, personable and sweet dog that is treat motivated and respnds to training well.  Patchy is living la vida loca in Hoboken.

Lazarus:  In a loving Rottie Savvy home

Picture
Lazarus is a young Rottie who loves toys and despite a tough beginning, greets everyone on the street. When he came to us, he had been in an abusive situation whereby his collar was embedded into his neck. He has since recovered and is doing great too! He was rescued by Jersey City Animal Control and now is truly rescued by a wonderful family in Bergen County who lost their loving Rottie, Cosmo.  Lazarus, now Otis, comforts a healing family by being the focus of their new joy.

Liam:  Sweet and loving dog is a tavern favorite

Picture
Liam, now Franco, is truly an ambassador for his breed and was quite the student in his training class.  Franco lives in Hoboken and actually goes to work a few times a week with his owners who own a wonderful tavern, Northern Soul.  If you have a pet friendly pooch, bring your buddy with you and meet a loving dog that our rescue still misses.

Ruby Lee Avalon:  She's a city girl now!

Picture
Ruby, in a word, is exuberant. She is very happy to be alive and finds joy in all the little things. You will seldom see her without his tail wagging. She loves to play and her favorite game is 'Catch me if you can'--she prefers to be chased.  She found a wonderful home in the heart of NYC.

Stella:  Rest in Peace Sweet Girl

Stella received all of the love and attention that she craved from her mom after being in the shelter for a year.  A few months after being adopted, Stella became gravely ill and fought hard until she was taken.  She was truly too good for a cruel world.  Rest easy baby girl.

Dexter Cruthers:  Living large in NYC

Picture
Thanks to the good people at Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City.  Dexter is the sweetest dog whose spunk and good nature got him adopted reasonably fast.  Hoboken Unleashed deserves credit for helping with foster care until Dexter's new family adopted him on the spot.  He jogs daily and loves his new digs in Tribeca.

Sasha:  Home is where the heart is!

Picture
Sasha was adopted thanks to Hoboken Unleashed and Laura, an MCPR representative.  Their tireless work got this sweet girl into a great home where she can romp, chill, and enjoy life's little pleasures.

Cy Van Helsing:  Frolicking with a new big brother

Picture
Cy is now Nigel and lives with a dog savvy family.  His new big brother, Owen, is a big dog like Cy, and now both the big lugs are frolicking in the backyard.  His sweet nature showed through that beautiful face and his smile melts your heart.

Luther:  Changed a family's view about bullies

Picture
Luther enjoys the company of dogs and gets along very well with children. Because he is an active boy, his new family saw Luther frolicking with another foster during an adoption event featuring MCPR and Liberty Humane Society's dogs.  His new family fell in love with him quickly and picked up Lucius from LHS that week.  Initially, the family had misgivings about his breed until Luther met the children.  He is a true ambassador.

Oliver:  I trust people again!

Hello my name is Oliver and I have been adopted!  I am an eight year old Beagle who was abandoned and abused by my former owner. As a result of the abuse, I was a little hesitant with stairs and doorways, but my foster family helped me heal physically and emotionally.  Now, I am a bundle of fun! I love to go to dog parks, go on walks, play with other dogs and cuddle on the couch. Boy do I love cuddling! Thank you for giving me faith in people again.

Eliza Doolittle:  From a life in the backyard to the living room sofa

After spending her life relegated to the backyard, Eliza Doolittle's family ultimately decided they had no more time to care for this sweetheart. She now lives a wonderful life in the Paulus Hook section of Jersey City and is enjoying a wonderful life with a great couple.  Thank you Hoboken Unleashed, and Charles for fostering such a wonderful girl.

Antonio:  He can teach us a lesson on loyalty

Antonio is a sweet dog that gently takes treats from your hand.  His new mom takes him to work everyday, and he is loving every minute of his new life.  Antonio's days were numbered at the shelter, but thanks again to Hoboken Unleashed who made it possible to save another amazing dog.

Rhoda:  From being thrown over a fence on a cold night to a warm home

Rhoda is a sweet girl who went to the shelter on a cold Saturday night in October when her old owners threw her over our fence. Luckily, staff members were still in the building. Starving, shivering, and still full of milk from having recently given birth, Rhoda eagerly entered her new home. Rhoda loves rawhides, comfy blankets, and human interaction. Thank you Liberty Humane Society for all of your help.

Cole:  A barking dog is often more useful than a sleeping lion

Cole was abused by his owner and taken away by a concerned dog lover in Jersey City who healed Cole emotionally with training, love, respect, and safety.  Confident, smart, and loyal, Cole found a home with a family familiar with this loving breed and dedicated to giving Cole the wonderful life that all dogs deserve.  Thanks to Rob the dog walker for saving this sweet boy.

George:  From homeless dog to office assistant

While walking him in the Downtown section of Jersey City during the Summer, George made quite a splash literally. There was an open hydrant and George seemed to enjoy the water very much. People stopped and were glad to pet such a sweet dog. George is living the high life in New York City and is also the office assistant.

Grant:  If your dog doesn't like someone, then you shouldn't either

Grant is a one year old mush that is built like a little linebacker. He loves playing with other dogs, especially his best friends Vinnie and Milo.  Grant went to the west coast with his new owner and is living la vida loca!

Handsome Tank:  Dogs love you more than they love themselves

Tank is a personable gentleman who greets people with a smile and a wagging tail.. He delights in a good back rub and invites you to massage his belly as well.  After a year in foster, the good people at Hoboken Unleashed lent a hand, and Tank was adopted quickly!

Sweet Lucy:  A dog wags its tail with its heart

When Lucy was at the shelter, she was known as Tori.  During the summer, a state inspector felt that Tori was not suitable for adoption and suggested that she be euthanized. Boy, was he was wrong about this girl! As you can see from her photo, she seems to feel better about herself after being adopted by a wonderful family. She just needed a warm house away from a loud shelter. God Bless Lucy and her wonderful family.

Hollie:  Thanks to a kind Jersey City Police Officer

Hollie was rescued from Holland Gardens housing projects. (Hence her name).  A Jersey City police officer took her from children who were forcing her to fight 2 live chickens.  Unbelievable!  Once the police officer laid eyes on Hollie, she turned herself inside out for affection and a kind hand.  The kind officer fostered Hollie until she found a forever home.

Sadie:  She smiles for those she loves

Sadie was known as Smooch at the shelter, and she excelled while in foster.  Sadie is a lovable Boxer and Pit Bull mix and her eyes melted MCPR members with one look. Sadie is happy to just be near you, taking walks, playing outside or just curled up beside you as you read or watch TV.  This the only dog that I ever saw that actually smiled.  She found a wonderful home on Staten Island.

Nigel:  A big lummox who loves everyone

He is definitely one of the sweetest dogs that MCPR ever fostered.  Big Nigel was nearly euthanized, but with the efforts of dedicated volunteers, a wonderful trainer named Georgio, and Liberty Humane's staff, Nigel was pulled and put into foster.  He is also a great city dog and walks through downtown Jersey City indifferent to all of the activity around him. Nigel exceeded all expectations and lives with a great family in Jersey City. Thank you Georgio for your great assessment and confidence in a great pup! He looks pretty menacing so he does cut a swath through crowds of people, but don't worry--he is a big mush.

Dixie:  She would rather play than eat

Dixie Chick loves water from a hose, and this little lady can jump about 3 feet straight up.  In fact, she loves to play and will fetch a stick for hours or just sleep with her toys when she is tired.  This girl is intelligent and eager to please and found a loving family that appreciates her energy.

Frazier aka Buddy:  Living la vida loca

Frazier found a great home in the heart of Manhattan.  This little guy warms up quickly and was so easily trained and socialized by his foster because Frazier is quite smart.  We can see why people also call him Buddy as he is loyal and values company more than anything.

Cassie:  No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as the dog does

Beautiful Cassie spent the most time at the shelter until she was rescued just before being euthanized.  What we thought was a "tough as nails" dog ended up being one of the sweetest dogs her foster dad ever saved.  Cassie found a perfect match with her new owner.  She certainly deserved it!

Vinnie:  A diamond in the rough

When he was at the shelter, he was known as Iceberg, but goes by the name Vincent (Vinnie) now.   Vinnie gets along with other dogs so well that he was able to win over his new friend Ebony who is very selective of other dogs who want her owner's attention.  He doesn't react to aggressive behavior because he is just the sweetest dog ever.  God bless Vinnie and his wonderful new owner.

Gabe:  A Star is Born

Gabe is super smart, aims to please and even watches TV. He especially likes to watch himself on TV when he was highlighted on a local cable news show (see pic).  There are just too many superlatives to describe this very sweet dog.  He lives with the most loving pet family around.

Percy:  If you think he can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving him only two of them.

Percy is a young guy and is a medium dog that thinks he's a lap dog. He enjoys playing and shows no aggression whatsoever. He found a great home with a dedicated new owner. Percy will simply love you for just being kind and won the hearts of the shelter volunteers who valued his gentle nature which did not diminish one bit.

Ginger:  Never underestimate the warmth of a cold nose

Ginger was withdrawn and shook in the corner of her cage for three days when she was at the HCSPCA.  Dedicated volunteers brought her out of her shell and discovered a playful and sweet girl that made your day.  She was adopted by a Union County couple and is happy as can be.

Scruffy:  A dog's best friend is his illiteracy

How in the world can someone surrender a dog that has been part of the family for a few years? This "old" guy is pretty spunky and is living out the second chapter of his life in a stable environment.  I swear that Scruffy has a sense of humor and knows how to make people laugh. He loves treats the same way older people seem to develop a taste for candy.  Just being able to go for a walk in the neighborhood is an exciting activity for this old man.

Mozo:  Dogs are lousy poker players. When they get a good hand they wag their tails

Poor Mozo seemed so aloof in the shelter until he was let out of his pen.  He loves to play and jumped right into my car one time.  He is so happy to be starting the second chapter of his life.  This little guy has a big attitude with a warm heart to match.  Good luck Mozo.
